49/ Colombia - Parque Tayrona
Du 24 au 27 Octobre 2017
Avec l’aide de notre hostel à Carthagène, nous avons organisé un transfert en minibus pour nous conduire directement à un autre hostel, The Journey, réservé en ligne et situé près du Parc Tayrona.
Ce parc naturel magnifique se situe au Nord du pays à environ 4 heures de trajet depuis Carthagène. Entre les deux il y a la ville portuaire de Baranquilla principalement connue pour être la ville natale de Shakira mais nous ne l’avons pas visitée.
With the help of the hostel of Cartagena we organized a transfer by minibus to take us directly to another hostel, The Journey, booked online and located near Tayrona Park.
This beautiful natural park is located in the north of the country about 4 hours from Cartagena. Between the two there is the port city of Baranquilla mainly known for being the hometown of Shakira but did not visit it.
Lorsqu’on nous a accompagné à notre chambre nous avons un peu râlé (surtout moi) car il fallait grimper et la pente était bien raide. Mais une fois installés, nous avons compris que l’effort valait cent fois la peine car la vue était splendide. Nous étions surpris de pouvoir avoir une telle chambre dans un simple hostel. Il s’agissait plus d’un bungalow que d’une chambre, fait de végétaux tressés, complètement ouvert côté vallée avec un lit à moustiquaire et un hamac où rester des heures à admirer les oiseaux et le paysage. Une super adresse !
When we were accompanied to our room we were a little grumpy (especially me) because it was necessary to go uphill and the slope was very steep. But once settled, we understood that the effort was worth a hundred times the trouble because the view was splendid. We were surprised to be able to have such a room in a simple hostel. It was actually more of a bungalow than a bedroom, made of braided plants, completely open to the valley side with a bed with mosquito net and a hammock where you could stay for hours to admire the birds and the landscape. A great spot!
Autre concept intéressant dans cet hostel, le premier dîner est obligatoirement réservé avec le reste des voyageurs dans leur espace commun. Le chef cuisine un même plat pour tout le monde (avec option végétarienne) et tout le monde fait connaissance autour d’un dîner très convivial. Il ne faut juste pas se tromper d’horaire car le premier soir nous sommes arrivés une demi heure en retard … nous nous sommes rattrapés les soirs suivants !
Another interesting concept in this hostel, the first dinner is obligatorily reserved with the rest of the travelers in their common space. The chef cooks the same dish for everyone (with vegetarian option) and everyone gets to know each other over a very convivial dinner. Just do not do what we did because the first night we arrived half an hour late to a cold dinner... we caught on for the following nights!
Ici l’attraction principale est le trek de plusieurs jours à travers la jungle vers la citée perdue (La Ciudad Perdida). Comme nous ne voulons prendre aucun risque en ce qui concerne le bon rétablissement du dos de John, nous avons dû éliminer tous les treks sur plusieurs jours de notre liste d’activités. Ceux-ci nécessitent le portage d’un sac à dos sur de longues distances et/ou un couchage en hamac trop inconfortable pour lui. La citée perdue a donc conservé son secret.
Here the main attraction is the trek of several days through the jungle towards the lost city (La Ciudad Perdida). Since we do not want to take any chances with John's good recovery from back surgery, we have had to eliminate all the treks over several days from our list of activities. These require the carrying of a backpack over long distances and / or a hammock bed - too uncomfortable for him. The lost city has kept its secret.
L’autre attraction locale est la visite du Parque Tayrona, visite qui peut s’organiser de différentes manières. Si vous avez du temps, vous pouvez visiter le parc sur plusieurs jours et dormir sur place dans de petites tentes très basiques ou des hamacs (pour les petits budgets) ou bien dans des bungalows (pour les gros budgets). Sinon, sur 2 jours, vous pouvez parcourir la partie partant depuis la première entrée le premier jour et l’autre partie depuis la seconde entrée le deuxième, et ainsi dormir dans un hôtel moins cher à l’extérieur de parc. Enfin, vous pouvez parcourir le sentier entièrement, d’une entrée à l’autre en une seule journée mais c’est assez long et donc assez sportif.
Comme expliqué précédemment, nous n’avions pas très envie de dormir dans un hamac donc nous nous sommes motivés pour la dernière option.
The other local attraction is the visit of Parque Tayrona, which can be organized in different ways. If you have time, you can visit the park for several days and sleep on site in small very basic tents or hammocks (for a low price) or in bungalows (for big budgeters). Finally, you can walk the path entirely, from one entry to another in one day but it is quite long and therefore quite difficult.
As explained earlier, we did not really want to sleep in a hammock so we were motivated for the last option.
Nous avons donc pris le bus local en face de l’hostel jusqu’à l’entrée El Cabo. Après 5 minutes de marche, il y a un garde auquel vous devez payer le droit d’entrée valable pour une seule entrée, d’un montant de 42,000 COP pour les étrangers (plus du double que pour les locaux).
La première heure n’est pas la plus intéressante car elle suit une route pour 4x4, mais nous y avons croisé de nombreux indigènes vêtus tout en blanc qui descendaient pour aller vendre leurs créations dans les marchés alentours et revenir plus tard avec de la nourriture, des matériaux et autres produits de nécessité. Ils n’étaient pas vraiment chaleureux, un bonjour poli mais jamais un sourire pourtant nous nous appliquions à leur montrer toutes nos dents !
L’heure suivante, toujours uniquement en montée est plus attrayante car elle suit un petit sentier qui traverse la jungle. Je reste toujours aussi amoureuse des promenades dans la jungle à l’affut du moindre bruit ou mouvement qui permettrait de démasquer l’un de ses habitants sauvages.
So we took the local bus from the front of the hostel to the entrance El Cabo. After 5 minutes of walking, there is a guard to which you must pay the entry fee valid for a single entry, amounting to COP 42,000 for foreigners (more than double than for locals).
The first hour is not the most interesting because it follows a dirt road, but we met many natives dressed all in white who passed us while heading down the mountain to sell their creations in the surrounding markets and come back later with food, materials and other necessities. We did not really find them warm, maybe a 'hola' but never a smile yet we tried our best by showing them all our wide smiles! The next hour, always only uphill is more attractive because it follows a small path that crosses the jungle. I'm still in love with jungle walks, on the lookout for the slightest noise or movement that would unmask one of its wild inhabitants.
C’est presque au sommet de la petite montagne que la tribu indigène a établi son village nommé El Pueblito. Nous avons lu que cela ressemble à la citée perdue en plus petit. Mais nous ne pouvons pas confirmer car nous n’avons pas de point de comparaison.
En revanche, il est vrai que le petit village renferme quelque chose de mystique dans ses formations de pierres. Le fait qu’il soit accessible aux touristes et toujours habité est aussi quelque chose d’assez rare. C’est l’occasion de voir leurs habitations et leur mode de vie rustique mais très bien organisé et très propre (pour rappel ils s’habillent en blanc au milieu de la jungle !). Nous ne savons pas si nous étions vraiment les bienvenus, nous avons donc tenté de nous faire tout petit et de le traverser comme nous le ferions dans l’un de nos petits villages de campagne à la maison.
It is almost at the top of the small mountain that the indigenous tribe has established its village named El Pueblito. We read that it looks like the famous Lost City but smaller. But we can not confirm because we have no point of comparison. On the other hand it is true that the small village contains something mystical in its formations of stones. The fact that it is accessible to tourists and still inhabited is also something quite rare. This is an opportunity to see their homes and their way of life, rustic but very well organized and very clean (as a reminder they dress in white in the middle of the jungle!). We do not know if we were really welcome, so we tried to make ourselves small and cross it as we would in one of our small country villages at home.
Les 2 heures de trail suivantes vous conduisent vers l’océan, que de la descente donc, mais ne croyez pas que ce soit facile car toute cette partie se fait en sautant de rocher en rocher. Deux heures d’escalade plus que de promenade pendant lesquelles vous sentez très bien vos fessiers et vos mollets. Il faisait bien chaud aussi donc nous n’avons pas regretté notre investissement dans un camel bag bien plus confortable pour ce genre de randonnée.
Sur le trajet, il y avait de nombreux lézards colorés de plusieurs espèces différentes ; pas faciles de les prendre en photo car ils se cachent à la moindre vibration, il faut donc s’y prendre tout en douceur.
Le paysage et la vue sur ce versant sont magnifiques, c’était donc une bonne idée de parcourir le parc dans ce sens là. Et je préfère largement avoir fait l’équilibre sur ces gros cailloux en descente plutôt qu’en montée.
The following 2 hours of trail lead you to the ocean, so downhill, but do not think it's easy because all this part is done by jumping from rock to rock. Two hours of climbing more than walking during which you feel very well your glutes and your calves. It was also hot so we did not regret our investment in a camel bag... much more comfortable for this kind of hike.
On the way there were many colorful lizards of several different species; not so easy to take pictures of them because they hide at the slightest vibration, so you have to take it easy.
The landscape and the view on this slope are beautiful, so it was a good idea to walk the park in this direction. And I much prefer to have balance on these big pebbles downhill rather than uphill.
En bas, une jolie plage vous attend, mais aussi de très nombreux touristes. C’est ici que se situent les campings et les différents restaurants où manger. Nous avions lu que les prix étaient très élevés à l’intérieur du parc, mais comme nous n’avons pas anticipé, nous avons dû déjeuner sur place (pas moyen de sauter ou repousser le repas car nous avions les crocs). La bonne surprise, c’est qu’au final, ce n’était pas si cher que ça (20 euros pour 2), et les plats de poisson et les jus de fruits frais étaient très bons. Le point négatif, c’est que nous avons dû faire la queue presque une heure pour obtenir notre repas et après 4 heures de marche sportive, c’était pas sympa pour nos petites jambes !
Downstairs, a beautiful beach awaits you, but also many tourists. This is where are the campsites and the different restaurants where to eat. We had read that the prices were very high inside the park, but as we did not anticipate, we had lunch on the spot (no way to jump or repel the meal because we were famished!). The good surprise is that in the end, it was not that expensive (20 euros for 2), and the fish dishes and fresh fruit juices were very good. The bad thing is that we had to queue for almost an hour to get our meal and after 4 hours of intensive walking, it was not nice for our little legs!
Après mangé, nous avons longé la côte à la recherche d’une plage pas trop bondée où nous rafraichir. La Piscina est parfaite, un peu excentrée, elle attire moins de monde et possède une barrière de corail qui protège des vagues et du courant. Le petit moins, c’est qu’il n’y avait presque pas de poissons à observer sous l’eau. Nous y sommes restés un petit moment, le temps pour moi de faire une sieste sur le sable pour récupérer un peu d’énergie avant d’attaquer la dernière partie de marche à faire jusqu'à l’autre entrée du parc (avant 17h, heure de fermeture).
After eating, we walked along the coast looking for a beach not too crowded where we refresh. The Piscina beach was perfect, a little out of the way, it attracts less people and has a coral reef that protects against waves and currents. The minus point is that there were almost no fish to watch underwater. We stayed for a while, the time for me to take a nap on the sand to get some energy before attacking the last part of the walk to make it to the other entrance of the park (before 17h, time closure).
Le sentier est encore une fois magnifique. Plus plat, pendant 2 heures, il longe plus ou moins la mer avec quelques parties dans la jungle. Les plages sont splendides mais il est absolument interdit de s’y baigner car le courant y est beaucoup trop dangereux.
Dans la jungle nous avons eu la chance de rencontrer une famille de singes roux qui ont un habitat vraiment exceptionnel, j’espère qu’ils le conserveront.
The path is once again beautiful. More flat, for 2 hours, it runs more or less along the sea with some parts in the jungle. The beaches are beautiful but it is absolutely forbidden to bathe because the current is much too dangerous.
In the jungle we had the chance to meet a family of red monkeys who have a truly exceptional habitat, I hope they will keep it.
Comme je souhaitais continuer à explorer le coin, je suis allée à la découverte du "Monkey Tail" proposé par l'hostel. Après avoir enregistré leur carte du parcours à l'allure de carte au trésor, je suis partie à l'aventure.
Après 10 minutes, je me retrouvais déjà en difficulté; une fois la rivière traversée, sur l’autre rive, impossible de trouver l’entrée du sentier. Heureusement, deux fermiers accompagnés de leur monture sont apparus et m’ont gentiment indiqué le chemin, très boueux donc pas facilement identifiable. Je continuais donc ma route, mais après 15 minutes j’étais encore perdue cette fois au milieu des champs face à un cul de sac. Je fis donc demi tour et au moment où j’allais rebrousser chemin, je trouvais enfin le sentier dessiné sur ma carte. Je pus enfin quitter le sentier des yeux et me concentrer sur la détection des 3 différentes espèces de singes vivants dans les environs. Je n’en ai trouvé qu’une sorte, ceux qui ressemblent au Capucins avec le visage blanc, mais plus grands.
Le sentier se termine sur une jolie plage embrumée par les gouttes d’écume projetées par une houle déchainée. De l’autre côté de la bande de sable, se situe un étang abritant quelques crocodiles comme signalé sur ma carte et confirmé sur place par un panneau.
À marée haute il semblerait que les deux se rejoignent pour bloquer le passage vers l’hôtel et la route de sortie. Bien sûr je suis arrivée à ce moment là et donc me suis retrouvée devant un nouveau dilemme : passer quand même ou faire demi tour (encore) après plus d’une heure de marche. Un homme est alors sorti de la jungle avec son chien lui envoyant un bâton pour jouer avec lui. Quand il l’a lancé dans l’eau de l’étang et que j’ai vu le chien se jeter à l’eau, j’ai pensé au pire, mais rien ne s’est produit, pas même un petit mouvement suspicieux à la surface. J’ai donc pris mon courage à deux mains et j’ai traversé le canal. J’avoue je me suis fais peur car le courant était très fort et j’ai perdue l’équilibre plusieurs fois, heureusement que j’avais un gros bâton avec moi sur lequel me rattraper.
Moralité, je ne repartirais plus en balade sans John…
As I wanted to continue exploring the area, I went to discover the "Monkey Trail" offered by the hostel. After registering their treasure map, I went on an adventure.After 10 minutes, I was already in trouble; Once across the river, on the other side, you can not find the trail entrance. Fortunately, two farmers with their horses appeared and kindly indicated the way, very muddy so not easily identifiable. So I continued my journey, but after 15 minutes I was still lost this time in the middle of the fields facing a cul de sac. So I turned around and at the moment when I was going to turn back where I had arrived, I finally found the path drawn on my map. I was able to finally leave the path of the eyes and concentrate on the detection of the 3 different species of living monkeys in the vicinity. I only detected one kind, those who look like Capuchins with white faces, but taller.
The trail ends on a pretty beach misted by drops of foam projected by a raging swell. On the other side of the strip of sand, is a pond sheltering some crocodiles as indicated on my map and confirmed on the spot by a roadsign. At high tide it seems that the two are joining to block the passage to the hotel and the exit road. Of course I arrived at that moment and thus found myself in front of a new dilemma: to pass anyway or turn back (still) after more than one hour of walk. A man then came out of the jungle with his dog sending him a stick to play with him. When he threw it into the water of the pond and saw the dog jump into the water, I thought about the worst, but nothing happened, not even a suspicious move on the surface. So I took my courage in both hands and crossed the canal. I confess I was scared because the current was very strong and I lost balance several times, fortunately I had a big stick with me on which I catch up.
Moral of the story, I would not leave again in a walk without John ...
Nous avons testé une dernière activité dans ce joli paradis perdu: le tubing.
Après avoir rejoint un autre hostel, El Rio, près du Rio Buritaca, chacun à l’arrière d’une moto taxi, nous nous sommes changés et avons commencé à remonter la rivière avec nos grosses bouées. Après environ 45 minutes de marche, nous nous sommes installés chacun dans notre gros donut et nous sommes laissés porter par le courant en admirant le paysage et en buvant une bière fraîche gentiment rapportée par notre guide. Un vrai moment de relaxation et de détente…
We tested one last activity in this pretty lost paradise: tubing.
After joining another hostel, El Rio, near the Rio Buritaca, each in the back of a motorcycle taxi, we changed and started to go up the river with our big buoys. After about 45 minutes of walking, we settled each in our big donut ring and we are carried by the current while admiring the landscape and while drinking a cool beer nicely brought with us by our guide. A real moment of rest and relaxation ...

Il faisait bien chaud aussi donc nous n’avons pas regretté notre investissement dans un camel bag bien plus confortable pour ce genre de randonnée.
Sur le trajet, il y avait de nombreux lézards colorés de plusieurs espèces différentes ; pas faciles de les prendre en photo car ils se cachent à la moindre vibration, il faut donc s’y prendre tout en douceur.
Le paysage et la vue sur ce versant sont magnifiques, c’était donc une bonne idée de parcourir le parc dans ce sens là. Et je préfère largement avoir fait l’équilibre sur ces gros cailloux en descente plutôt qu’en montée.
The following 2 hours of trail lead you to the ocean, so downhill, but do not think it's easy because all this part is done by jumping from rock to rock. Two hours of climbing more than walking during which you feel very well your glutes and your calves. It was also hot so we did not regret our investment in a camel bag... much more comfortable for this kind of hike.
On the way there were many colorful lizards of several different species; not so easy to take pictures of them because they hide at the slightest vibration, so you have to take it easy.
The landscape and the view on this slope are beautiful, so it was a good idea to walk the park in this direction. And I much prefer to have balance on these big pebbles downhill rather than uphill.

En bas, une jolie plage vous attend, mais aussi de très nombreux touristes. C’est ici que se situent les campings et les différents restaurants où manger. Nous avions lu que les prix étaient très élevés à l’intérieur du parc, mais comme nous n’avons pas anticipé, nous avons dû déjeuner sur place (pas moyen de sauter ou repousser le repas car nous avions les crocs). La bonne surprise, c’est qu’au final, ce n’était pas si cher que ça (20 euros pour 2), et les plats de poisson et les jus de fruits frais étaient très bons. Le point négatif, c’est que nous avons dû faire la queue presque une heure pour obtenir notre repas et après 4 heures de marche sportive, c’était pas sympa pour nos petites jambes !
Downstairs, a beautiful beach awaits you, but also many tourists. This is where are the campsites and the different restaurants where to eat. We had read that the prices were very high inside the park, but as we did not anticipate, we had lunch on the spot (no way to jump or repel the meal because we were famished!). The good surprise is that in the end, it was not that expensive (20 euros for 2), and the fish dishes and fresh fruit juices were very good. The bad thing is that we had to queue for almost an hour to get our meal and after 4 hours of intensive walking, it was not nice for our little legs!

Après mangé, nous avons longé la côte à la recherche d’une plage pas trop bondée où nous rafraichir. La Piscina est parfaite, un peu excentrée, elle attire moins de monde et possède une barrière de corail qui protège des vagues et du courant. Le petit moins, c’est qu’il n’y avait presque pas de poissons à observer sous l’eau. Nous y sommes restés un petit moment, le temps pour moi de faire une sieste sur le sable pour récupérer un peu d’énergie avant d’attaquer la dernière partie de marche à faire jusqu'à l’autre entrée du parc (avant 17h, heure de fermeture).
After eating, we walked along the coast looking for a beach not too crowded where we refresh. The Piscina beach was perfect, a little out of the way, it attracts less people and has a coral reef that protects against waves and currents. The minus point is that there were almost no fish to watch underwater. We stayed for a while, the time for me to take a nap on the sand to get some energy before attacking the last part of the walk to make it to the other entrance of the park (before 17h, time closure).

Le sentier est encore une fois magnifique. Plus plat, pendant 2 heures, il longe plus ou moins la mer avec quelques parties dans la jungle. Les plages sont splendides mais il est absolument interdit de s’y baigner car le courant y est beaucoup trop dangereux.
Dans la jungle nous avons eu la chance de rencontrer une famille de singes roux qui ont un habitat vraiment exceptionnel, j’espère qu’ils le conserveront.
The path is once again beautiful. More flat, for 2 hours, it runs more or less along the sea with some parts in the jungle. The beaches are beautiful but it is absolutely forbidden to bathe because the current is much too dangerous.
In the jungle we had the chance to meet a family of red monkeys who have a truly exceptional habitat, I hope they will keep it.

Comme je souhaitais continuer à explorer le coin, je suis allée à la découverte du "Monkey Tail" proposé par l'hostel. Après avoir enregistré leur carte du parcours à l'allure de carte au trésor, je suis partie à l'aventure.
Après 10 minutes, je me retrouvais déjà en difficulté; une fois la rivière traversée, sur l’autre rive, impossible de trouver l’entrée du sentier. Heureusement, deux fermiers accompagnés de leur monture sont apparus et m’ont gentiment indiqué le chemin, très boueux donc pas facilement identifiable. Je continuais donc ma route, mais après 15 minutes j’étais encore perdue cette fois au milieu des champs face à un cul de sac. Je fis donc demi tour et au moment où j’allais rebrousser chemin, je trouvais enfin le sentier dessiné sur ma carte. Je pus enfin quitter le sentier des yeux et me concentrer sur la détection des 3 différentes espèces de singes vivants dans les environs. Je n’en ai trouvé qu’une sorte, ceux qui ressemblent au Capucins avec le visage blanc, mais plus grands.
Le sentier se termine sur une jolie plage embrumée par les gouttes d’écume projetées par une houle déchainée. De l’autre côté de la bande de sable, se situe un étang abritant quelques crocodiles comme signalé sur ma carte et confirmé sur place par un panneau.
À marée haute il semblerait que les deux se rejoignent pour bloquer le passage vers l’hôtel et la route de sortie. Bien sûr je suis arrivée à ce moment là et donc me suis retrouvée devant un nouveau dilemme : passer quand même ou faire demi tour (encore) après plus d’une heure de marche. Un homme est alors sorti de la jungle avec son chien lui envoyant un bâton pour jouer avec lui. Quand il l’a lancé dans l’eau de l’étang et que j’ai vu le chien se jeter à l’eau, j’ai pensé au pire, mais rien ne s’est produit, pas même un petit mouvement suspicieux à la surface. J’ai donc pris mon courage à deux mains et j’ai traversé le canal. J’avoue je me suis fais peur car le courant était très fort et j’ai perdue l’équilibre plusieurs fois, heureusement que j’avais un gros bâton avec moi sur lequel me rattraper.
Moralité, je ne repartirais plus en balade sans John…
As I wanted to continue exploring the area, I went to discover the "Monkey Trail" offered by the hostel. After registering their treasure map, I went on an adventure.After 10 minutes, I was already in trouble; Once across the river, on the other side, you can not find the trail entrance. Fortunately, two farmers with their horses appeared and kindly indicated the way, very muddy so not easily identifiable. So I continued my journey, but after 15 minutes I was still lost this time in the middle of the fields facing a cul de sac. So I turned around and at the moment when I was going to turn back where I had arrived, I finally found the path drawn on my map. I was able to finally leave the path of the eyes and concentrate on the detection of the 3 different species of living monkeys in the vicinity. I only detected one kind, those who look like Capuchins with white faces, but taller.
The trail ends on a pretty beach misted by drops of foam projected by a raging swell. On the other side of the strip of sand, is a pond sheltering some crocodiles as indicated on my map and confirmed on the spot by a roadsign. At high tide it seems that the two are joining to block the passage to the hotel and the exit road. Of course I arrived at that moment and thus found myself in front of a new dilemma: to pass anyway or turn back (still) after more than one hour of walk. A man then came out of the jungle with his dog sending him a stick to play with him. When he threw it into the water of the pond and saw the dog jump into the water, I thought about the worst, but nothing happened, not even a suspicious move on the surface. So I took my courage in both hands and crossed the canal. I confess I was scared because the current was very strong and I lost balance several times, fortunately I had a big stick with me on which I catch up.
Moral of the story, I would not leave again in a walk without John ...

Nous avons testé une dernière activité dans ce joli paradis perdu: le tubing.
Après avoir rejoint un autre hostel, El Rio, près du Rio Buritaca, chacun à l’arrière d’une moto taxi, nous nous sommes changés et avons commencé à remonter la rivière avec nos grosses bouées. Après environ 45 minutes de marche, nous nous sommes installés chacun dans notre gros donut et nous sommes laissés porter par le courant en admirant le paysage et en buvant une bière fraîche gentiment rapportée par notre guide. Un vrai moment de relaxation et de détente…
After joining another hostel, El Rio, near the Rio Buritaca, each in the back of a motorcycle taxi, we changed and started to go up the river with our big buoys. After about 45 minutes of walking, we settled each in our big donut ring and we are carried by the current while admiring the landscape and while drinking a cool beer nicely brought with us by our guide. A real moment of rest and relaxation ...
